Unique Content Article: History of Bead Bracelets

    History of Bead Bracelets

    by Nicholas Jacobellis

Throughout history beads and bead bracelets have played an important role in culture. The earliest forms of jewelry have been found and dated to around 100,000 years ago, so even our ancient ancestors knew of jewelry and it's probable impact on their society. These bracelets and necklaces were more than likely used by women to look more beautiful and appealing to men, seeing as how many women value jewelry more than men in today's society.

Some of the first evidence of jewelry had come out of Africa, near 75,000 years ago in the form of bead bracelets made from bored out ostrich egg shells. As well there was strong taste for some semblance of jewelry outside of Africa around 7,000 years ago the earliest evidence of copper jewelry were found. The earliest evidence of an authorized jewelry making means appeared in Ancient Egypt between 5,000 and 3,000 years ago, and these people had also ascertained the simplicity of turning gold into pretty much anything they wanted. This is the first time in history that human beings had applied gold as a source for jewelry making, and since than it has stuck as how even to this day gold is seen as a precious metal even though gold holds no real industrial use.

More importantly however in history is that many beads were used in a more spiritual sense. The word "bead" itself is collected from the Middle English word "bede" which means prayer. These beads that were used in ancient times were prayer beads, and even in today's society there are man prayer beads. The Roman Catholics (I know this, I'm a Catholic) use Rosary beads to pray, and the prayer process is lengthy and constant. There are many discoveries even that find a variety of gold bead necklaces were worn in ancient Mesopotamia and even India, and Egyptian nobles favored more wide collars of colored gemstones, ceramic, or even glass beads.

Native North American tribes were flagrant for dressing up in all kinds of beads, and would put beads on many of their artifacts including their cloths and bags, and their skin tunics. Throughout much of history jewelry was seen as a viable form of currency as well. There hasn't been a trusted paper system until recent memory so our forefathers had to turn to jewelry and other bargaining agents to supply themselves with food, water, and gear needed to survive. Today we have the Dollar, and Euro and other forms of money, but back then there wasn't this sense of security in paper money.

It's important to note the historical want for beads, bead bracelets, and jewelry in general. These symbols have played critical roles in the history of humanity, and will never be taken away from us. Countless centuries have passed since the first piece of jewelry was carved out of some rock, and since than humanity has moved forward with impressive speed and dedication to looking our best.

One cause to invest in purses is their durability. Once you obtain a quality bag it could adhere to you eternally. For years your purses stay dedicated to you and go with you wherever you wish.
Time. Tick, tick, ticking away. This moment ... gone. Never to return, never to be experienced again. The next moment ... coming up and soon to pass by.When you take a few moments to contemplate the moments, you suddenly realize that there really isn't any way to get them back. We can renew energy, paper, plastic, glass, even money! But not time. Which begs the question: How are you spending the one thing you can't get any more of?There are myriad 'systems' to help you organize your time. Day planners, day runners, Outlook, Act, Goldmine, Teatime, online calendars, off-line calendars, PDA calendars, clocks, alarms, GPS-PDA-NFL-miracle watches! Regardless of which one(s) you use, I'll bet you $100 that you are spending WAY too much time on 'low value-low return' activities. What do I mean by that? Well, let's do a little exercise first. Let's find out how much your time is worth.
